Intro... We have 11 spots reserved at the Fern Lake Group Campsite (Thanks Todd!!). We have the site for two nights, Friday 7/30 and Saturday 7/31. Fern Lake can be reached via two separate trailheads; Fern Lake or Bear Lake. The hike from Fern Lake TH is 3.8 miles one way w/ 1,375' of elevation gain. I don't have the data for the hike from Bear Lake, but as I understand it is slightly longer but involves less elevation gain.
The first 11 folks to
post a reply to this message are the lucky winners. I think most of us
are relatively backcountry savvy and geared up. However, I encourage
anyone who wants to go but lacks the gear or experience to RSVP.
Collectively, I'm sure we can come up with the gear to outfit you. And, a
group trip like this is a great way to learn essential backcountry skills
and maybe even a little photography! Bret and Scott would be more than
happy to work with you before the trip to ensure you're properly outfitted
and going in with the right expectations. |
Agenda: Backpack into base camp at the Fern Lake Group Campsite where photo opportunities abound! Fern and Odessa Lakes, streams, waterfalls and wildlife in abundance not to mention some sharks-tooth jagged mountains (including the Little Matterhorn). More info will be posted as the date nears!!
